2020: the Season of Unpredictability
2020 has been nothing short of __________________________________ (insert favorite adjective/phrase here).
In the spring we were on the verge of starting our eighth season delivering top-notch food tours in three of our favorite areas of St. Louis. And then it all came to a screeching halt when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.
For the safety of our guests, the staff and owners of the restaurants we feature, and our tour guides, we knew that the Savor Saint Louis Food Tours simply could not begin. Not soon after, restaurants had to shut down, some temporarily and some permanently.
This entire season we’ve watched and listened to our partners in St. Louis and to other food tour operators across the globe.
Early on we remained optimistic that the tours would start by mid-summer and, as time went by, perhaps by early fall. As of this writing, which is partway through August, we’ve come to the tough conclusion that our food tours — public or private — will not take place at all during 2020.
To say we’re disappointed is an understatement. Imparting our love of the region and sharing tastes from just some of the quality restaurants in St. Louis on our food tours is our favorite part of the week.
However, the safety of everyone involved are what’s most important.
Fortunately, we’ll be able to adapt to what the future will unfurl, so rest assured, we will be back in some fashion or another. Our devotion to St. Louis and food demands it.
